Why You Love Nutter Butter Acorns
- They’re a fun fall treat perfect for any age! Kids will love these, but so will adults. Chocolate and peanut butter, what’s not to love?!
- You only need three ingredients to make these peanut butter and chocolate acorns. Store them in your pantry until needed and you’ll always have the supplies on hand!
- Make these for parties, get-togethers, and even to hand out in cute fall baggies as a sweet homemade gift.
Ingredients for Nutter Butter Acorns
- Nutter butter bites – If you have a nut allergy, you can use mini chips ahoy cookies in their place! It will look a little different, but will taste wonderful and still resemble an acorn.
- Chocolate kisses – Use whatever type of Hershey kisses you want. You can use the solid milk chocolate ones, the ones with a soft center, or even kisses with an almond center.
- Mini chocolate chips – You will need to melt some mini chocolate chips to use as your cookie “glue”, and keep some as the little stem on your acorns.
Helpful Tools
How to Make Nutter Butter Acorns Cookies
Line two separate baking sheets with parchment paper and then set them to the side.
Measure out ½ cup of mini chocolate chips and remove 48 from the cup. Set those aside.
Then, replace the remaining chocolate chips into a microwave safe bowl. Microwave the chocolate for 30 seconds and then stir until smooth and creamy. If it need longer in the microwave, pop it back in and microwave in 15 second increments. Be sure to stir in between.
Flip a Hershey kiss over and spread a small amount of melted chocolate over the flat bottom. Gently press the kiss onto a nutter butter.
Then, dip the bottom of a reserved mini chocolate chip in melted chocolate. Place it on the opposite side of the nutter butter cookie as an acorn stem.
Place each complete acorn onto the parchment paper lined baking sheets and let them set.
Once the chocolate has set, store in an airtight container until ready to serve.
How to Store Leftover Nutter Butter Acorns
I do not recommend storing these cookies in the fridge or the freezer. If they sweat at all, the cookies could soften and become chewy.
For best results, store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. If you plan to serve these at a party, make them the day of or the day before so they taste fresh!
How do I keep my chocolate from seizing in the microwave?
It is really important to keep an eye on chocolate as it melts. Since you’re melting an extra small amount of chocolate in this recipe, it won’t take near as long. As a general rule of thumb, it is always best to start with less time in the microwave, you can add on more later.
After the initial run in the microwave, stir well between each time you place the chocolate back in to melt. Don’t overheat the chocolate, that is what causes it to seize.
Pro Tips!
- For an extra “authentic” look, spread some chocolate around the edge of each nutter butter cookie and roll them in finely chopped walnuts or pecans.
- Use different types of Hershey kisses throughout the whole batch! Some can be plain milk or dark chocolate, while others have a fun surprise in the middle.
- You can use skewers or something similar to help apply a tiny dot of chocolate to the mini chocolate chip stem.
Don’t forget to serve this fun fall dessert on a fun fall platter! Display these well and they could be the perfect centerpiece for your dessert table. Oh, and make some nutter butter turkeys to go with them!
