No-bake Monster Energy Balls are so easy to make, fill you up and are the perfect snack! Made with peanut butter, oats, protein powder, chocolate chips and Mini M&Ms they are loaded with protein, yet satisfy your sweet tooth. Great for a breakfast on the go, snack or add them to your lunch!

Quick and easy on-the-go snacks can be a hassle. Sometime all I’ve got in the house is chips or crackers, and I need something more substantial until I get to the next meal. That’s where these monster energy balls come in handy! I love to make a big batch of these protein packed treats to munch on throughout the week. They’re filling, tasty, and honestly feel like I’m just eating a cookie!
Monster cookies and monster cookie bars are two of my most favorite simple desserts ever. So, creating a quick snack with the same flavors was a win in my book.
These energy protein balls are naturally sweetened with honey, so they’re a much healthier option too! You’re going to love having an indulgent and tasty snack on hand for those munchy moments.
Why You’ll Love Monster Energy Balls
- There is about 6g of protein in each little ball. Talk about packing a serious punch! They’re a great way to get extra protein in your diet and keep you fueled between meals.
- As long as you use gluten-free oats, no bake monster cookie energy bites are gluten-free. No need to change anything up and substitute ingredients!
- Since the main ingredients in this recipe are peanut butter and oats, this is actually a very affordable snack. We’re all for budget-friendly options! My kids love these and think they are monster cookie dough balls!
Ingredients for Monster Cookie Energy Balls
- Vanilla protein powder – Use any brand of protein powder, whatever is your favorite. Feel free to use different flavors if you want too!
- Honey – I prefer to use raw local honey because the flavor is better and I like the added health benefits. But any honey that you have on hand will sweeten these energy balls perfectly.
- M&Ms – The key ingredient in classic monster cookies, M&Ms. Using them in these balls gives a satisfying candy coated crunch in every bite. We prefer using the mini M&M.
- Mini chocolate chips – Mini chocolate chips mix better into these little balls. Regular sized ones will make the dough too chunky and it will be difficult to roll.
- Oats – Oats are a great base ingredient for energy balls. They go with any flavors and add some protein.
- Creamy peanut butter – You can try using crunchy peanut butter, but it may make the mixture too chunky to roll. That’s why I prefer creamy peanut butter. You can use any type of nut butter if you’d like to use something else.
- Salt – A little pinch of salt will help to balance the sweetness.
How to Make Monster Energy Balls
- Mix together the oats, creamy peanut butter, M&Ms, mini chocolate chips, protein powder, honey and salt together in a medium bowl.
- Then, use a cookie scoop and scoop the mixture into individual servings and roll into a ball. Each ball should be about one inch in size. Place them onto a baking sheet lined in wax paper.
- Transfer the cookie sheet to the refrigerator and allow the monster energy balls to chill for about an hour. They should set and harden a bit.
- Once chilled, transfer the balls to a zip top bag and store in the freezer.
How to Store Monster Cookie Energy Balls
I prefer to store these oatmeal energy balls in the freezer because they last longer that way. However, you can also store no bake monster energy balls in the fridge.
FRIDGE: Once set, transfer the energy balls to an airtight container and store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
FREEZER: To freeze energy balls store them in a freezer safe plastic bag or airtight container, in the freezer, for up to 3 months. Allow to thaw before eating.
Are energy balls good for you?
Getting plenty of protein in your diet is always a good thing! These protein packed energy balls are a great healthy snack. You can even eat them as a part of breakfast or as a pre-workout snack too! Whenever you need an energy boost, one of these will do the trick.
Can I use a different protein powder flavor?
Feel free to change up this monster energy balls recipe a bit and use any flavor of protein powder that you want! Chocolate powder and peanut butter protein powder would both be delicious. Even a caramel flavored protein powder would be great.
Pro Tips for the Best Monster Cookie Energy Balls
- Don’t make the energy balls too large in size or they may not set well. Keep them all uniform shapes and sizes so that each serving is the same.
- You can change up the candies that you use! Feel free to use different flavored M&Ms or even different colors to give them a fun theme.
- Allergic to peanut butter? You can use almond butter or sunflower butter instead.
These quick and easy energy balls are a no-brainer when it comes to fun and healthy snacks! Make a batch, or two — you’ll thank me later.
