Save your money and make this easy Apple Pie Spice at home! It only requires four spices that are probably in your pantry already. Make a big batch so you have it on hand for all your fall baking like pies, cider, bread and more!

Back before I started the blog and I was a beginner baker I would buy those expensive spice mixes like apple pie spice and pumpkin pie spice not even realizing I already had all of the ingredients in my spice rack!
I don’t even want to think about how much money I wasted and, luckily, I figured out how to make my own spice mixes and I haven’t looked back!
Does this sound familiar? If you’re like me and love apple recipes you don’t need to run out and buy an expensive spice mix – you can make your own with what you probably already have on hand!
Why You Should Make It
- You only need four common spices to make it!
- It takes all of five minutes to make a batch and it will keep for several months.
- There are about 10,000 ways (ok, that’s an estimate!) you can use it – even beyond apple baked goods!
- You can make it for yourself or make a batch to give away as gifts.
What is Apple Pie Spice?
It’s a mixture of warm spices that pair perfectly with apples! It’s similar to pumpkin pie spice, but it has more nutmeg and less ginger. But – you know what? – I use them interchangeably in recipes, but don’t tell anyone!
I bet if you check your spice rack you have all four ingredients on hand to make it:
- Cinnamon
- Nutmeg
- Allspice
- Ginger
That’s it!
Once you have your ingredients, measure them out and mix them up. Store the mix in an airtight container and it will keep for months in the pantry.
Pro Tips
- Double-check the expiration dates on your spices before mixing them up. If they are expired, I would toss them and definitely use fresher ones for the best results.
- After you package your spice mix, label the container with the date. This will make it easy to keep track of when you made it.
- I like to keep things low maintenance and use ground spices, but if you want to fancy it up feel free to use whole spices and grind them yourself!
- Apple spice mix is great for gifting! Buy some cute airtight containers (little jars are perfect), divide up the mix and then add a label with a cute tag and ribbon.
Different Ways to Use It!
- Pies, Cakes, and Muffins: Of course, you can’t go wrong with classic Apple Pie! Or, try using it for Muffins or Apple Pie with Crumb Topping. It works great in my Apple Poke Cake, too!
- Quick Bread: It works perfectly in Pumpkin Bread, Zucchini Banana Bread, and, of course, Crumb Apple Bread!
- Drinks: Sprinkle a little apple pie spice as a garnish for drinks. It gives them a delicious fall twist. Apple Cider, Hot Buttered Rum, Irish Coffee, Caramel Latte, and Pumpkin Hot Chocolate are all delicious with a little fall spice!
Try it and love it? Rate it, please!? Seriously though a five-star rating below will make my day!

Usually your recipe for the pie would tell you how much to use.

Add extra flavor to your spice blend by the addition of a pinch of ground cloves to the mix.
Addition is yummy.

I’ll have to give it a try, thanks!

It’s just so much better to make this spice myself than have yet another specialist jar bought from the store. Your ratios are spot on here.
