Ingredients for Ham and Cheese Croissants
- Croissants – Grab fresh croissant from the grocery store or your favorite local bakery. The more fluffy and flakey they are, the better your sandwiches will be.
- Deli ham – Your favorite ham lunchmeat will work great for this recipe. Feel free to add in some turkey lunch meat too!
- Swiss cheese – I love ham and swiss, but you can use any kind of cheese you want. Cheddar cheese, provolone, gouda, and colby jack are all really tasty on these croissant sandwiches.
- Worcestershire sauce – Mix a little Worcestershire sauce with a few other ingredients to brush on top of the croissants. It adds so much flavor!
- Honey mustard – Dijon mustard or stone ground mustard would also work.
- Butter – You can use salted or unsalted butter.
- Dried minced onions – If you don’t have dried minced onions, a little onion powder will do.
How to Make Ham and Cheese Croissants
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit before you begin preparing the sandwiches.
- Then slice each of the croissants in half and place a slice of cheese on the base of each one, followed by two slices of ham and another slice of cheese. Put the top of the croissant back on each one.
- Place the croissants on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
- Then mix the melted butter, honey mustard, worcestershire sauce and minced onions together and brush on top of each ham and cheese croissant.
- Place in the oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melty and croissants are toasted.
- Serve immediately.
How to store Leftover Baked Ham and Cheese Croissants
Allow sandwiches to cool completely before storing. Then wrap individually in plastic wrap or aluminum foil, or place into zip top plastic bags.
FRIDGE: Store leftover croissants in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
FREEZER: It is important that you store the sandwiches individually (or wrap individually) if you plan to freeze. Store in a freezer safe container up to 2 months. Allow to thaw before reheating.
How to Reheat Ham and Cheese Croissants
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and then place leftovers onto a baking sheet. Heat for about 10 minutes, or until fully warmed through. The croissant may be a bit soggy, but it’ll still be super tasty!
Should croissants be served warm or cold?
In general, baked ham and cheese croissants should be served warm. However, if you prefer not to reheat the leftovers, you can eat the sandwich cold!
Is a croissant healthier than bread?
Croissants are no healthier than regular bread. However, they do tend to be much more tasty! So if you’re going for the calories and carbs of bread, you might as well choose a croissant instead.
What can I add to a ham and cheese croissant?
Feel free to come up with your own variations on this recipe. Add some tasty additions like:
- bacon
- mayonnaise
- pepperoni
- salami
- fresh tomatoes
- mustard
What to Serve with Ham and Cheese Croissants
These yummy little sandwiches pair wonderfully with fun side dishes like chicken caesar pasta salad or an easy fruit salad. But you can also serve them with a warm comfort food like tomato soup or potato soup.
Potato salad or salty potato chips are a classic deli pairing. You could even serve these with some air fryer french fries. The choice is all up to you!
Pro Tips for the Best Ham and Cheese Croissants
- Watch the croissant closely as they bake. If the bread starts to get too crispy, pull them out of the oven and let the cheese finish melting while they sit on the hot pan.
- Choose the freshest croissants that you can find! This will ensure the best flavor and texture.
- I recommend using black forest ham or honey ham for the best results.
These gooey and flavorful croissant sandwiches are a total game-changer! I hope you enjoy!
