If you’re craving BBQ flavors, you can make the most delicious BBQ chicken drumsticks in your crock pot! No grill or complicated cooking steps required. This is an easy recipe that combines a delicious spice rub with BBQ sauce to make the best BBQ chicken legs.
Why This Recipe Works
- You can prep the chicken in the morning and let it cook for hours in the slow cooker.
- Your favorite BBQ sauce plus my spice rub gives the drumsticks tons of flavor!
- My secret for the best chicken legs is to put them under the broiler before serving them. It crisps up the skin and caramelizes the BBQ sauce.
- Simple ingredients and a two-step cooking process make this the easiest recipe. I know you’re going to love it!
Don’t want to wait for the slow cooker? Try my other chicken leg recipes you can make in your air fryer or oven instead!
Ingredients
The spice rub is made with simple pantry spices – I bet you already have them on hand! Sea salt, pepper, garlic powder, smoked paprika, chili powder, and onion powder are all you need.
Choose your favorite store-bought BBQ sauce for this recipe. You’ll use it for cooking the chicken in the crockpot and glazing the drumsticks before they go under the broiler.
Don’t forget the chicken legs! I use a 4-pound package for this recipe.

Let’s start with the rub. It is great and should be considered when cooking any kind of chicken. We just don’t like crock-pot chicken, it is our last choice. Just to mushy soft and much of the flavor seems to get lost in the process. We wear out our crock-pot on many meals but just not chicken.

And that’s okay! You could try making it a different way to get the outcome you’d like! I’m glad you liked the rub!

I’ve asked this question several times but have not received an answer. I cook for 1 person & sometimes 2. Why can’t you use the normal scale for spices and not .6oz or 2 ounces. There have many recipes I won’t even try ’cause of this. Please give me answer. That was one of the reasons I unsubscribed even though I was sorry & now trying again. Just give me some sort of answer.

Janett I replied to you before. The computer auto generates as you adjust the servings so it just cuts everything in half if that’s what you select it to do. You will have to figure out that .666 cups is 2/3 cups etc.
