- Onion – Dice up a white onion or yellow onion to add to the beef sauce mixture.
- Marinara sauce – You can grab a can of marinara sauce from the grocery store or make homemade marinara sauce.
- Lean ground beef – To keep this tortellini casserole from getting greasy, use lean ground beef. You can also use ground turkey or ground chicken. Italian sausage would be tasty too!

How to Make Baked Tortellini
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and move the oven rack to the top third of the oven.
- Add oil and diced onion to a large skillet over medium-high heat and sauté for 4-5 minutes.
- Stir in the beef and minced garlic and continue to cook. Break up the meat and cook until no pink remains. Then drain off the excess grease and transfer the cooked beef to a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Add marinara sauce, cheese tortellini, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper. Then stir it all together and spread it out into an even layer.
- Place the dish into a preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the tortellini is cooked and the cheese has melted.
- Remove your baked tortellini from the oven and serve immediately!
How to Store Leftover Baked Cheese Tortellini
FRIDGE: Transfer leftovers to an airtight container and allow to cool. You can also tightly cover the dish in plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Store in the fridge for 3-5 days.
FREEZER: Cover the baking dish in plastic wrap or aluminum foil, or transfer to an airtight storage container. Store in the freezer for 1-2 months. Thaw before reheating.

For best results, reheat in the oven. You can also reheat leftovers in the oven.

Absolutely! Prep the dish, but leave the mozzarella cheese off of the top. Store it in the freezer for 2-3 months, covered in plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Pull it out of the freezer for about 30 minutes before baking. You’ll need to add a few minutes a cook time!

Ingredients
- 1 Tablespoon olive oil
- ½ medium onion chopped
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 4 cloves garlic minced
- 24 ounces marinara sauce (1 jar)
- 2 packages frozen tortellini (9 ounces each)
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon pepper
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and move the rack to the top third of the oven.
- Add the oil and onion to a skillet over medium-high heat and sauté for 4-5 minutes.
- Stir in the beef and garlic and continue cooking, breaking the meat up, until the beef has browned (about 8-10 minutes). Drain off excess grease from hamburger. Transfer the cooked beef to a 9×13 inch casserole dish.
- Add the marinara sauce, cheese tortellini, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper to the casserole dish, then toss it all together and spread it out in an even layer.
- Sprinkle the cheese over the top, then cover the dish tightly with foil.
- Place in preheated oven at 375 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for 35-40 minutes or until the tortellini is cooked and the cheese has melted.
- Remove from the oven and serve immediately.
