How long will homemade Chex mix last?

Is it cheaper to buy chex mix or make your own?
The upfront cozy may seem like it is more expensive to make homemade chex mix, but it is actually more affordable. You can make a larger batch and you are also in control of what goes in it! If you add in tons of different ingredients, it can get more expensive so just keep that in mind.
Add-Ins for Taco Snack Mix
Mix up your snack mix by adding different items each time you make it. It’s a great way to use up leftover ingredients that are in your pantry. Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Peanuts
- Bugles
- Corn chips
- Cashews
- Cheerios
- Goldfish crackers
- Cheese puffs
- Popcorn
- Corn nuts
Pro Tips for the Best Taco Snack Mix
- Use the exact amount of liquid. To little liquid and the seasoning won’t adhere to the mixture, but if you use to much liquid the snack mix will get soggy.
- Don’t crowd the snack mix on the pan. If you don’t have two large baking sheets use 3-4 pans. If you crowd the mixture it won’t cook properly and it will make it soggy.
- Make sure that you bake the snack mix long enough. It is ready to go when it looks dry, not greasy or wet.

Question: if I were using prepackaged taco seasoning, how many 1oz packages would you recommend? I’m planning to make this for a coworkers going away party. It sounds like a great contrast to all the sweets everyone else is bringing. Thanks!
Courtney says
One packet = about 3 tablespoons. 1/4 cup = 4 tablespoons. So you’d need just over a single packet.

Hi, I was wondering if you could make this Taco Chex Mix in the crockpot instead of the oven?
Julie says
Yes! Mix everything together and cook on low for 3 hours, stirring every 30 minutes. Then let it cool on wax paper before storing in an airtight container.
Nellie Tracy says

Hi, I didn’t use canola, I used bacon grease. 1/4 C and I used waited green chilies as I use them in my chili. I also use mixed nuts. My family loves it. You can use a bit of franks hot sauce instead of chilis but unlike chilis. Thank you for the recipe
Julie says
You’re welcome, I’m glad you enjoyed it!

sorts of good things in it–chex, pretzels, cheese
crackers, small rye etc. it was mixed with popcorn
oil and put in the oven. I lost the recipe and I’m
wondering if you have any idea what I’m talking about?
